At Sweet Skin Spa, we sugar from brows to toes to everything in between for all kinds of hair removal. AND we do mean – everything in between. But why sugaring and not wax?
Both women and men reap the benefits of sugaring. This form of hair removal uses simple sugar, water and lemon juice, no chemicals or additives – it’s even edible, looking a lot like honey! Body sugaring is applied to the skin at body temperature, compared to wax which has to be heated. Both the heating of wax and its typical chemical makeup expose skin to more stress and potential inflammation than body sugaring. Sugaring is ideal for all skin types and is especially helpful to those who are prone to skin inflammation or skin reactions to chemicals.
Body sugaring is also a very gentle method of hair removal.
We mold the sugar in the opposite direction of the hair growth so it seeps in to the hair follicle and then we flick it in the same direction of the hair growth. This helps prevent less hair breakage and ingrown hairs. The sugar attaches to the hair and dead skin, so it also serves as a gentle exfoliant.
For all of these reasons, we have chosen body sugaring as a more natural and healthy way to remove hair while caring for your skin. Whether you are looking to shape brows, remove unwanted facial hair, smooth your legs or other body parts, sugaring can work for you!
It is best for the esthetician and the client to sugar when the hair is 1/8” to 1/4” of growth. Usually three to four weeks after sugaring or two weeks after shaving. When sugaring at this beginning stage of growth it MAY lead to permanency over time, the hair grows back lighter, thinner and finer.
